Watershed Management Programme IWMP, Manipur

The main aims of the IWMP are to restore the ecological balance by harnessing, conserving and developing degraded natural resources such as soil, vegetative cover and water. The outcomes are prevention of soil run-off, regeneration of natural vegetation, rain water harvesting and recharging of the ground water table. This enables multi-cropping and the introduction of diverse agro-based activities, which help to provide sustainable livelihoods to the people residing in the watershed area.

The program is implemented as per the Guidelines issued by Department of Land Resources, Ministry of Rural Development. In Manipur the program is implemented by State Level Nodal Agency for Watershed Programme and executed through DRDA at district level.

SLNA Manipur, a dedicated Institution registered under Manipur Society Regulation Act, 1989, bearing registration No. 426/M/SR/2010 set up for smooth and effective management of watershed projects in Manipur under the administration control of Planning Department; with Primary aim to address all issues related to watershed management and development activities in Manipur State. For effective streamlining of the programme, SLNA has instituted a State Data Cell with technical experts in planning, co-ordination, management and GIS applications.
